What I Wore Today: Chunky Sweater, Chunky Boots |Down Vest - Lands’ End | Cable Knit Sweater - Howlin’ by Morrison | Oxford Shirt - Luxire | Denim - Japan Blue | Shell Cordovan Boots - Wolverine 1000 MileBack to work today, looking forward to another long weekend coming up. I’ve had this vest for 5 years now, a bargain for $20. Lands’ End outerwear on sale is a great deal for anyone on a budget.
The sweater is a cool piece that I snagged new on eBay for half price. Morrison is a knitwear brand from Antwerp, Belgium founded in 1981, producing all of their goods in Scotland and Ireland. Howlin’ was launched as a separate brand in 2009 targeting a younger customer with more playful patterns and colours. This is their “Kolari Cable Crew”, it’s warm, 100% wool, made in Ireland and full of interesting flecks of colour. It’s quickly become a favourite. However, I do wish that it was a little slimmer in the arms and midsection. Understandably, the fit is a traditional design choice for a sweater of this heft.

I wish I had another straighter leg pair of jeans that matched better with the bulkiness up top. There’s a slight imbalance here especially from the rear view. I may look at getting a pair of Pure Blue Japan’s next fall.
The boots are perhaps my most memorable deal of all time. Two weeks ago I happened to check r/frugalmalefashion at just the right moment to see a post linking the boots on Amazon’s flash sale site MyHabit for $300 USD from their original price of $760. They sold out almost instantly after that, I manged to get my size right under the wire, my heart pounding. There were only 1000 pairs made two years ago, all in brown Horween shell cordovan and individually numbered. Flawed seconds had come up before for around $375 and for firsts to be even less than that was mind boggling. I’ll have a detailed post on them once they’ve had some more wear, here they are outside for the very first time.
